Well, a sword at your side is just fine for light swords like the katana, but for heavier weapons you're going to want it on your back, regardless of the speed of the draw.

Cool idea but then how will the cape show if it has to go over a sword hilt sticking as high as your head? One could make it that you choose either the weaps or the cape. Just be careful not to cut yourself with your poisonous axe or we'll see your body lying somewhere

If you want this done right you got to let a gnome explain it.

I've always liked this idea if you want to know how its got to be done correctly here we go.

When in a town or outpost your weapondry would be on your back/waist. I don't know what to say for casters though. Be able to have staves out at all times?
Swords or axes can be on the waist but shields go on the back. Daggers on the waist, as for hammers you should carry them around like you go when walking: have them on over the shoulder thats so neat. Oh and bows would be on the back. Infact if you have for instance a shield equiped but a bow as your primary weapon the shield would be still visable.

I could even go a step farther and say the weapon sets you have set would all be visable.

When you zone into an explorable area your character when loaded would do a neat little sword/axe/shield dagger/dagger or hammer draw animation. Sort of an ego booster as they are running in a danger zone.

You should be able to turn the undrawn weapons on/off


Logistics or not..It's a game! It doesn't have to be real or make sense at all. So what if you have a fiery dragon sword or other kin undrawn on your belt? It'll look cool and make those town trips more interesting.

so true, you can't go around "I'm wielding a Totem Axe" all day to show your weapon

I Posted this in another thread, but it was closed.
Here's where I think the sheathed weapons should be placed on your character:
Wands should be on the right side of your waist.
Focus' should be on the left side of your waist. (Right if you are using a small sword with one.)
Daggers should be one on each side of your waist.
Certain swords should probably be on the left side of your waist. (Depends on the size whether they should be on your back or not.)
Most swords should be on your back.
Hammers should be on your back (head facing down), or over the shoulder like Boomer said.
Staffs should be on your back.
Axes should be on your back.
Shields should be on your back, over the weapon you have with it.
Bows should be on your back.

Waist not waste

This has been suggested before, but I think weapons should be strapped to the side (scabbard or such) or just held in the hand if it's a staff or some such. Weapons/shields on the back would interfere with capes.

They will probably still have clipping issues if on the side anyway, but yes, would be a nice addition if the clipping could be resolved and it was optional to turn it off so you don't see everyone's weapons (to reduce any performance hits)

I don't know about caster items. A staff on the back is silly imo as is a wand on the waist. The others are ok for me.

There is no logic to bags, only convenience. You don't see a backpack actually on your character do you? nor 2 large bags, you don't even see things hanging off your belt.

I would like a game where you could only carry what you could carry...... any extra weapons would be visible, your satchel would be small, and unless you brang some sort of beast of burden, you wouldn't be able to carry much belongings, nor collect much. And since it is realistic, every enemy who dies leaves behind every article of equipment they were using, but you have to choose what you can afford to take with your realistic inventory. Great idea for another game.

Putting your flaming sword in your bag which is totaly non exsistant on your character is totaly different, just like the 4 sets of weapons which you switch to and the 40 hammers your dragging around, it is one of those convinient oversights which allows us to play without realistic burdens. They could likewise make us look unrealistic with flaming (and other elemental) weapons holstered on us, but if it doesn't work well, why do it at all.

Towns already have the more lag than any other locations, with up to 100 or so ppl logged into one district, adding 1 or 2 carried items will exponentially increase the lag, 2 more items X every person in a district, as if we need it.

Not only that, your not just asking for these to be visible, but your asking for a new aspect which allows you to attach these weapons to your side or you back, added display programing for no other purpose but vanity, which will increase lag in the places we have the most of it....... it isn't a good idea, whether you want it or not.

They are already investing in "town" cloths, that way people can dress down and look nice in town, Anet is doing what they can to decorate characters with nice appealing equipment which they will enjoy in town, if holstering weapons, or displaying them at all, is a reasonable addition then they probably would have done it already. They are already working on ways to improve what you can see in town, perhaps they can make some town armor that looks like you have a sword by your side or a greatsword on your back, but we don't need more loading time in towns just so 90 people you don't care about can vainly show off their weapons.

Join Mattu Keep district 1 and then consider this some more.

As for flaming weapons setting yourself on fire, most of the weapons could be "deactivated" so the flames arn't burning on the pronged weapon, whatever else on each weapon, that is something else they could add with this if they really needed too, but it is alot of work for little reason IMO, Rangers should have visible quivers on their back in battle before everyone else starts carrying their weapons in town. This idea goes way down at the bottom of the list of things to improve, after adding many other things including better bandwidth that way we can actually function with this sort of addition.

About the cape issuses. I always just figured that the weapons would go over the cape.

And do we actually have a statement that says Anet is really investing in town clothes?

Instead of them showing up, how about multiple weapon/offhand slots? This would help with people who have several weapons, for example warriors, who have swords, axes, and hammers, for different builds. These could be like new F1, F2, F3, F4 slots. This would also prevent you accidentally selling one of your very good weapons because of lag or whatever.

WoW has weird looking flame/glowing swds that are just "Pasted" on the back and it seems fine... I mean if a GW character can just magically pull out weapons out of thin air while in game, why not have the ability to "paste" the weps on the back? lol


-Having a swd (provided its not too long) worn on the back (slanted) instead of the side has an advantage in cramped or tight areas. This enables the person to have a better range of movement and not have the swd sheath get in the way when moving around.

-Maybe depending on the type of weapon used, it could either be placed on the back or at the sides....

It's supposed to be a magical hilt/grip/haft/etc. You can't turn it off as if it were a lightbulb.
